Neomycin sulfate, gramicidin.
FG Troches Meiji contains fradiomycin sulfate 2.5 mg (potency) and gramicidin-S HCl 1 mg (potency) with added sweeteners and flavorings.
FG Troches Meiji has a broad antibacterial spectrum due to the synergistic action of fradiomycin sulfate and gramicidin-S HCl.
Fradiomycin sulfate, the same substance as neomycin which was discovered by Waksman and Lechevalier (1949), is effective against gram-positive, gram-negative, acid-fast bacteria as well as actinomyces.
Gramicidin-S HCl is mainly effective against gram-positive bacteria including penicillin-resistant strains. When used together, they show synergistic action and becomes effective against a broad range of pathogenic bacteria.
FG Troches Meiji, unlike other conventional troches, has the shape of a doughnut to prevent danger of suffocation.
Its sweet taste makes it easier to administer to infants and small children. The troche is designed to be dissolved easily in the mouth and act directly upon the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, the pharynx and the upper respiratory tract. Thus, it is effective in the treatment and prevention of infections in the oral cavity and the pharynx.
Treatment of infectious stomatitis, gingivitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, tonsillitis, Vincent's angina, pharyngeal diphtheria, periodontitis of wisdom tooth due to fradiomycin and gramicidin-S-susceptible strains of Staphylococci, Streptococci, Propionibacterium acnes, Bacteroides and Fusobacterium spp, and prevention of postoperative (oral surgery) infections.
In general, administer as follows: Adults: 1 or 2 troches; Children: 1 troche. Doses are to be taken 4-5 times a day.
Administration: FG-Troches Meiji should be dissolved in the oral or buccal cavity or under the tongue.
No known contraindication, but they are ineffective against infections caused by bacteria other than fradiomycin-gramicidin-S sensitive ones.
Anorexia, nausea and gastrointestinal disorders may occur.
